Founded in 1961
Welcome to The International Women´s Club of Stockholm
The International Women´s Club of Stockholm (IWC) was founded 55 years ago, in 1961. There are about 350 members and it is truly international with over 60 nationalities represented. The club is, and has been since its beginnings, administered by its members on an entirely voluntary basis. The Board consist of 11 members and an International Co-ordinator who is in contact with our sister clubs abroad arranging visits and exchanges. The Club brings together expatriate women living in Stockholm . There are also some Swedish members who have returned to Stockholm after living abroad for a long period of time.
Through its activities the Club provides opportunities to interact and share each others cultures and interests. IWC organizes activities that help expat members to familiarize themselves with Stockholm and with Swedish culture.
The other major activity is helping needy women and children both internationally and locally. Every year the club organises three main charity events. The first is in October with a fashion show, the second is in December when the luncheon theme is organized by an Embassy, and the third event is in March, as close to International Women´s Day on the 8th as possible.. The IWC´s charity events receive kind and generous support from the Swedish Royal family, Embassies and many companies both Swedish and international.
IWC is purely a social club with the motto Friendship and Goodwill to all. It has no religious, political or commercial affiliations. IWC has created a peaceful and harmonious forum for its members and everyone who joins in our activities.
If you would like to join or would like more information about our club please contact us: firstname.lastname@example.org
IWC stands for the International Women’s Club. The IWC has members of more that 60 nationalities. Since 1982 we have had the honour of having Her Royal Highness Princess Lilian, Duchess of Halland, as our club’s patron.
The club’s purpose is to welcome newcomers to Stockholm and provide them with a platform for creating networks among the foreign and local communities.
The other major activity is helping the needy internationally and locally whenever we can. Every year the club organises three charity events in October, December and March. These charities are carefully chosen by the IWC’s Executive Board.
The IWC’s philanthropic activities receive kind and generous support from the Swedish Royal family, Embassies and many companies.
As the IWC has such a worthwhile purpose many ladies would like to join when they arrive in Stockholm and find out what it does. The IWC has a set of rules as to who is eligible to become a member, and applicants need to be sponsored by a member and approved by the Executive Board.
Running of the club
The International Women’s Club has been administered on an entirely voluntary basis by its members since its formation in 1961. The Executive Board has 11 members: President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, Bulletin Editor, Philanthropic Chair, Programme Chair, Membership Chair, Hostess Chair, Tours Chair and Social Activities Chair. We also have a representative for International activities, the International Coordinator. Separate from the Executive board is the Nominating committee whose role is to ensure the continuity of Board membership needed for a smoothly running club.
55 years have passed and the IWC has reached its Golden Anniversary by sharing Friendship and Goodwill. Each and every member is aware of the IWC’s conditions when they are welcomed as a new member. The IWC is a social club with no religious or political affiliations. With its motto of Friendship and Goodwill to all, the International Women’s Club has created a peaceful and harmonious meeting place for its members and everyone who joins in our activities.
